“Celebrating 7 Years of Baba Yangu Foundation UK! 
7 years. 7 whole years of community, growth, and impact.
I honestly cannot believe we are celebrating the 7th anniversary of BYF UK! Looking back to when we launched on July 20th, 2019, our vision was clear: to raise mental health awareness and fiercely fight the stigma within ethnic minority communities. Today, I am overwhelmed with gratitude for how far we have come, and how God has brought so many incredible “destiny helpers” along the way to turn this dream into a reality.
We are truly a charity run by the community and built by the community. To everyone who has been part of this journey, thank you. I want to take a moment to honor the amazing people who made BYF what it is today:
The Early Dreamers: Nadia and Amina, back when this was just a vision and we were still figuring out how to register!
The Foundation Builders: GCVS, without whom I wouldn’t have even known how to register a charity or write a constitution. Angelina, Eliane, and Rio, who believed in the dream and helped us shape our very first policies.
The Project Pioneers: Ula and Phina—there is simply no Suso without you girls. Thank you for starting our very first projects together.
The Pillars of Support & Governance: Nadeem, there are no words. Thank you for sticking by BYF, helping us with governance training, and elevating our funding applications. To our incredible board—Murugi, Lillian, Graham, Francesca, and Nahom—BYF could not exist without your brilliance and contribution.
The Heart and Soul of our Programs: Ruth, our amazing facilitator, who is so deeply passionate and intentional about every small detail for our children and families. Mercy, our first-ever volunteer, youth worker, and board member—you have literally done it all!
Our Champions & Mentors: Michael Jackson, if it wasn’t for your help, we wouldn’t have secured our very first funding application. Thank you for the invaluable mentoring. Ima Jackson, thank you for believing in us, connecting us to vital people, and ensuring we had a free space to run our projects for two straight years.
Our Lifeline: To our amazing volunteers who give their time so selflessly to keep our programs running smoothly.
Our ‘Why’: To our wonderful young people and families—thank you for trusting us and allowing us to walk alongside you.
