The SUSO programme is an early intervention initiative for youth aged 8 to 18. It empowers them with skills and confidence to boost their mental and emotional well-being.
We run separate programmes for boys and girls, creating safe and welcoming spaces for all.
In Scotland, many Black and racialised young people face challenges like racism, feeling unseen, and finding spaces where they feel a sense of belonging and community. These experiences can negatively affect their mental health and confidence. The Scottish Government and organisations like Intercultural Youth Scotland highlight the need for community-led, culturally sensitive approaches to tackle loneliness, discrimination, and isolation.
That’s why SUSO was created: to give young people a chance to be themselves, feel heard, and build confidence in a supportive and culturally affirming space.
We’re excited to launch a mentorship scheme where young people take the lead. Through this initiative, older participants will guide younger ones, sharing their skills and knowledge. This experience will help everyone build their confidence, ensuring that SUSO’s legacy of empowerment thrives within our community.
SUSO not only supports young people in standing up to challenges but also in standing out by embracing their uniqueness, culture, and voice.
