Agatha, our inspiring CEO, founded BYF UK from her personal journey with mental health and her commitment to supporting the Ethnic Diverse community, particularly with childhood and intergenerational trauma. Love is at the heart of BYF, as we believe it plays a vital role in overcoming mental health challenges.
BYF began its journey in Uganda, focusing on supporting homeless youth and single mothers. Agatha saw the need for culturally relevant mental health services when we expanded into the UK. She knew that trauma and cultural stigmas can make it challenging for people to have open conversations and seek help. As a mother, she was inspired to create a warm and supportive space for her child and others in the community.
Agatha’s journey inspires BYF’s mission to ensure that families and individuals never face mental health struggles alone, promoting healing, understanding, and access to support across generations.
At BYF, our name reflects our heart.
“Baba Yangu” means “My Father” in Kiswahili, symbolising the deep love, care, and guidance of God, our Father. As a Christian charity, everything we do is rooted in His love, fostering a spirit of compassion, unity, and empowerment.
Through our work, we create safe spaces where whole families, children, parents, and carers can grow, heal, and thrive together, equipped with strength and faith to overcome life’s challenges. Guided by love, service, and community principles, we aim to uplift and inspire, ensuring everyone we serve feels valued, supported, and connected, just as God intended.
